Re: AJ Out, Skinner, Speed In

AJ wanted out. They drug their feet too long and he finally said he was going to leave at the end of the season. The team decided he'd be leaving now.

I think the #41 car is likely for him as speculated by many this weekend.

Too bad for AJ they waited so long when everyone knows Red Bull corprate wanted Speed in there and didnt care what the team in NC thought. I would have loved to see him in the 33. Kinda bites the 41 is about the best he will get at the moment.

Skinner, Speed to finish season for Red Bull
1 hour, 59 minutes ago

Buzz Up PrintCHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP)—AJ Allmendinger will not finish the season with Red Bull Racing, giving up his seat to Mike Skinner and Scott Speed for the final seven races of the year.

Allmendinger is not returning to the No. 84 Toyota next year, and the team is letting him go early to pursue another job. He finished a career-high ninth in his Red Bull finale Sunday at Kansas Speedway.

Skinner, who drove the car for five races earlier this season, will drive the car the next two weeks at Talladega and Lowe’s Motor Speedway.

Speed, who is making the transition from Formula One to NASCAR under Red Bull’s guidance, will make his Sprint Cup Series debut at Lowe’s in a third Red Bull entry. He’ll then finish the year in the No. 84 by driving at Martinsville, Atlanta, Texas, Phoenix and Homestead.

“The schedule we put together is in the best interest of both Red Bull Racing Team and AJ’s plans for the future,” general manager Jay Frye said Tuesday. “Allowing Mike Skinner and Scott Speed to share the No. 84 for the balance of the season helps our team continue developing our program for the future.”

Speed is believed to be in line to drive the No. 84 full time next season.

With TRB's attitude towards this whole situation, makes me think they will never sign a superstar. Their only hope is that Vickers and Speed turn into a very good driver, but what happens when their contracts are up or if Speed falls out of the top 35... An owner in Austria, doesn't seem to be what it takes in NASCAR. Thats why the best teams, Hendricks, Childress, Roush.... their owners are at nearly every race... where the TRB owner is pretty much a ghost figure....
AJ will make it somewhere, whether it's cup or NW or trucks... I love his personality but 3 top 10's doesn't make him a lock in a cup ride to me... I still say all these teams that are struggling need vets in their cars like Skinner, Ward Burton, etc... why Ward is MIA is beyond me he kept McClure in so many races a few years ago... SPONSORS: FANS LOVE WARD!!!
