ABOUT ME

Introduction

My hobbies

YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

In the picture above you probably saw how much more energy the U.S.A uses than the rest of all our neighbor countries. Although energy needs increases as population increases, it is still unexceptable for us to be using so much energy, which is created by unclean polluting substances. Please be a hero to the earth by turning off your lights, television set and electrical supplies while not in use! Thank You- Gonewman12

Hello my friend its Labor Day weekend and time for football and racing.

In 1999, Penske Motorsports Inc. merged with International Speedway
Corporation, bringing California Speedway into the ISC family of tracks.
Beginning in 2004, California Speedway's 2-mile oval became the host
of two Cup Series races each year, adding a Labor Day weekend
event to its roster of activities.

The track was renamed in February 2008.
It is now called the Auto Club Speedway.

2007 Race Results

Sprint Cup Series
Sharp AQUOS 500 : Jimmie Johnson-09/02/07

Auto Club 500 : Matt Kenseth-02/25/07
Cup Historical Race Winners

Nationwide Series
Camping World 300 presented by RVs.com:Jeff Burton-09/01/07
Stater Bros. 300 : Matt Kenseth-02/24/07

Craftsman Truck Series
San Bernardino County 200: Mike Skinner-02/23/07
Carl VS Kyle
In the wake of last weekend's bump-and-run and post-race altercation
at Bristol, is it going to get ugly between championship leaders
Kyle Busch and Carl Edwards? We have a new rivalry in nascar!!!

Have a great Labor Day weekend.

Hello my friend its time for Bristol Night Racing.

Bristol is a legendary short track with a larger than life reputation.
A lot of things make it unique, the high banks, all the grandstands
surrounding the track, it sounds different than any other track. It
is just a very special place. You realize it as_&__&_soon as you step foot
in the place. You definitely know that you are at Bristol. Some tracks
you go to and it is just another intermediate track with no real
character to it.

In case you've ever wondered why Bristol Motor Speedway packs more
than 150,000 fans into a half-mile racetrack on a steamy Saturday
night in August, you only have to look at a pair of "tag, you're it"
incidents between Terry Labonte and Dale Earnhardt under the lights
to understand a little of the intensity.

In both 1995 and 1999, it was a hard-charging Earnhardt who rammed
leader Labonte's rear bumper on the final lap. In the first instance,
Labonte somehow skidded across the finish line first to win. In the
second, it was Earnhardt who wound up in Victory Lane amid a chorus
of boos, adding another chapter to his legend as the Intimidator.

And it led to one of Earnhardt's greatest post-race quotes:
"I wanted to rattle his cage."

The last time Sprint Cup visited Bristol RCR finished 1st,2nd and 3rd.
With Jeff Burton in 1st, Kevin Harvick in 2nd and Clint Bowyer in 3rd.

Have a great weekend

Wednesday, August 20, 2008 -- Gentleman Jim Day

http://www.440.com/twtd/today.html

No steel guitar, no fiddle for Jim Reeves. The man who turned country into pop-country, becoming the first big country-crossover artist, and possibly, the most popular, was born on this day in 1923 in Galloway, Panola County, Texas.

In his short life (he died in a plane crash near Nashville in 1964), Jim Reeves played minor-league baseball hoping to pitch for the St. Louis Cardinals (that career was ended by an injury), was a radio announcer and an entertainer (Louisiana Hayride), and had more than forty top-ten country hits and over two dozen in the pop Hot 100.

His second release, Mexican Joe, was #1 and was quickly followed by the #2 hit, Bimbo. He wrote and performed the hits Yonder Comez a $ucker, Am I Losing You, and I’m Getting Better. A slew of #2 hits, including Losing Your Love, Adios Amigo, I’m Gonna Change Everything and Welcome to My World were only slightly overshadowed by the number ones, Billy Bayou, He’ll Have to Go, I Guess I’m Crazy and his biggest pop and country hit, Four Walls.

‘Gentleman’ Jim Reeves was elected posthumously to the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1967, with his fans continuing to make his songs into #1 hits. From 1964 through 1967, there was This is It, Is It Really Over?, Distant Drums, Blue Side of Lonesome, I Won’t Come in While He’s There. Singers Deborah Allen and Patsy Cline did duets with Reeves through the magic of electronic recording. Deborah sang Take Me in Your Arms and Hold Me with Reeves for a 1980 hit, and Cline sang with Reeves’ voice in the 1981 hit, Have You Ever Been Lonely?

Tonight, if you watch TV, you’ll have a pretty good chance to buy a Jim Reeves record collection from a commercial selling Reeves on CD or cassette.

Mary Reeves on the Jim Ed Brown Show 1968 introducing Jim Reeves Medley of songs. (3 songs)

Have a great day -- Glenda

On this day...August 18, 1834

Mt. Vesuvius erupts

"It is 79 A.D. and Pompeii is a bustling Roman city on the Mediterranean coast blessed with beautiful weather, built on fertile ground and filled with lively people. Towering above the city walls lies Mount Vesuvius whose green slopes and lush mountainside add to the splendor of the landscape. It is the end of August and the summer has been hot and dry, the sea is swelling and the ground is vibrating slightly. Nature is talking, but no one is listening. "

"Suddenly, the mountain explodes and the unthinkable happens as nearby Mount Vesuvius violently erupts. Ash and pumice rain down from the sky and 20,000 people perish. Buried with them are their villas, treasures, pets and loved ones. The people and their city are forgotten for 1,700 years."

"But what nature destroyed, it also preserved."

"Now, you can journey back in time to experience A Day in Pompeii and discover everyday life in the ancient Roman city, marveling at hundreds of exceptional objects including room-size frescoes, marble sculptures, gold coins and exquisite jewelry. "

"A Day in Pompeii offers a once-in-a-lifetime experience! A Day in Pompeii is a collaboration of the Soprintendenza Archeologica di Pompeii and the host American institutions, the Gulf Coast Exploreum Science Center, the Science Museum of Minnesota, the San Diego Natural History Museum along with Discovery Place. A Day in Pompeii will only be in four US cities; Charlotte being the final destination before leaving the United States."

"A Day in Pompeii is on exhibition from July 11, 2008 through January 4, 2009. "

red rose beautiful frame glitter kwekky love
It seems like forever since I have had a chance to chat with everybody, with another trip back to the cities with my sister and her boys and getting ready for school, there are never enough hours in the day. I hope everyone is having a great summer. Unfortunately my summer vacation ends next Monday when it is back to the classroom and to a room of excited middle schoolers. NOT. Oh well, I plan to enjoy the last few days of my summer watching this weekends races and soaking up my last rays of summer sun-- rain better stay away. Hugs to you all, Fay

Mr. Edison's Phonograph

"August 12, 1877, is the date popularly given for Thomas Alva Edison's completion of the model for the first phonograph, a device that recorded sound onto tinfoil cylinders. It is more likely, however, that work on the model was not finished until November or December of that year, since Edison did not file for the patent until December 24, 1877. "

"While working to improve the efficiency of a telegraph transmitter, Edison noted that the tape of the machine gave off a noise resembling spoken words when played at a high speed. This caused him to wonder if he could record a telephone message. Edison began experimenting with the diaphragm of a telephone receiver by attaching a needle to it. He reasoned that the needle could prik paper tape to record a message. His experiments led him to try a stylus on a tinfoil cylinder, which, to his great surprise, played back the short message he recorded, "Mary had a little lamb."

"Edison's discovery was met first with incredulity, then awe, earning him the moniker "The Wizard of Menlo Park." The sound recording industry, which evolved from Edison's invention, soon emerged as a source of popular entertainment as recordings of concerts, comedic sketches, opera and other performances were made available to the American public to play on their phonographs."

"As a young boy growing up on an Illinois farm in the late nineteenth century, Harry Reece remembered the invention of the phonograph as one in a series of technological marvels: Electric lights were something to marvel at…the old Edison phonograph with its wax cylinder records and earphones was positively ghostly…and trolley cars, well they too were past understanding! http://memory.loc.gov/ammem/today/today.html"

Edison tinfoil phonograph demonstration

"A demonstration of recording on a tinfoil phonograph, as invented by Edison in 1877. The phonograph seen here is an exact replica of an all-brass exhibition machine as made by Bergmann in late 1878. This replica was built by the late Bill Ptacek. It's a massive phonograph, weighing 125 pounds."

Have a great day -- Glenda

Old Singer

August 12, 1851 Isaac Singer granted patent for his Singer sewing machine

"Sewing machines did not go into mass production until the 1850's, when Isaac Singer built the first commercially successful machine. Singer built the first sewing machine where the needle moved up and down rather than the side-to-side and the needle was powered by a foot treadle. Previous machines were all hand-cranked. "

The Secret Life of Machines - The Sewing Machine #1of3

This video is long but it is very interesting if you have an interest in machines and how they work.

" The Secret Life of Machines" has information about many other inventions. Have a great day -- Glenda.

I was going to come up with a really cool post for all my IP friends, but my body says, "Go to bed. You are really tired as you worked hard last night. Go soak in a hot tube and relax." And, so I will!
