In this age of superspeedways, you might not think of Daytona International Speedway as particularly large or remarkable.
But in 1959 the biggest track on NASCAR’s Grand National circuit was Darlington at 1.366 miles, a far cry from the 2.5-mile Daytona. Racers were awestruck when they saw it and terrified when they drove it.
