Fontella Bass - Rescue Me

" "11/14 - A few years ago a portable jukebox was discovered which belonged to
John Lennon in the 1960s. The jukebox conntained a tracklist of 40 records -
soul, R&B and Rock 'n' Roll - written in Lennon's own handwriting.
These are the songs which shaped his musical education and they reveal
many of the original sources of inspiration for his later songwriting."

California Oil Sauce

Ingredients Required:
1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil
2 cloves garlic
1/4 tsp. dried oregano
1/4 tsp. dried basil
1/2 tsp. parsely flakes
1/4 tsp. majoram
1/4 tsp. red pepper flakes
1/4 tsp. ground black peppercorn

Step by Step Procedure:

1) Puree ingredients in a blender and store in a small covered jar.
2) Brush oil sauces on dough, place desired cheese, and then top.
3) Cook just like sauced pizzas, however they may take just a little less time until done.

Additional Information:
These recipes makes enough sauce for 2 12" pizzas.
By using these examples, it's not hard to come up with your own variation based on your taste

I just made this sauce for the first time. I like the way it tastes as well as it is easy to make
and cheep. We use it on our Trader Joe's pizza crusts with our favorite toppings and nondairy
cheese. The dough for the crust comes in a plastic bag and I pat it out on a large pizza pan,
one with holes in it, and bake it on my pizza stone. This makes the crust crisper.

Have a great day -- Glenda

I wasn't on IP last week because I was busy making Halloween costumes for
friends and family for a party last Saturday night and I ended up wearing just a
t-shirt...lol. But that shirt was stuffed with about 65 Walmart plastic bags and I
was litterally burning up with the 80's temps we were having...lol. It was like a
sauna in there. I also want all of my friends to know that this too is going to be
a very busy week for me. I have a birthday celebration in Austin on Wednesday;
and then when I return on Thursday, I will be packing to leave on a trip to Florida.
I am leaving on Monday, October 27 (my birthday) to go spend the week with my
friend Cindy (follown26) and my friend Ashley (kahnebudgirl) will be joining us on
Thursday, October 30, for a day of fun on the beach. I can't wait. We are going to
have a ball....wish all of my friends could be there. If you live in the area and want
to meet with us...let me know!! I am only telling you this now in case I run out of
time and can't post a race day post to everyone. And...thought you might want
a Maxine send off too....

I think Maxines just has a thing about pumpkins...

I guess she is still up to her devilish ways too...lol. Have a great Tuesday my
friend and a wonderful week. I hope to talk to you before the weekend. Hugs.

Aurora Borealis

Many years ago, when I was a child, my Father would often come into the house to tell us to go outside so that we could see the Aurora Borealis, or the Northern Lights. It seemed as though I had been told that the lights were caused by the sun rays hitting the northern icecaps. According to the Alaska web site: “Scientists at the Geophysical Institute at the University of Alaska Fairbanks study the waves of solar particles that splash against the earth's magnetic field and create the aurora.” Have a great day.

The Aurora Borealis

"The Aurora Borealis can come and go in the blink of an eye, ever changing, always amazing us, forever engraving it's beauty in our minds for ever. There is no music that could ever describe this wonder of nature, all I can share with you is my emotions of what I see... I wish It could go on for ever." (According to the video, all the photos from this came from NASA sites)

Subject: Fw: Desk Jockeyed

A lesson that should be taught in all schools . . and colleges

Back in September of 2005, on the first day of school, Martha Cothren, a social studies school teacher at Robinson High School in Little Rock , did something not to be forgotten.

On the first day of school, with the permission of the school superintendent, the principal and the building supervisor, she removed all of the desks out of her classroom.

When the first period kids entered the room they discovered that there were no desks.
'Ms. Cothren, where're our desks?'
She replied, 'You can't have a desk until you tell me what you have done to earn the right to sit at a desk.'
They thought, 'Well, maybe it's our grades.'
'No,' she said.
'Maybe it's our behavior.'
She told them, 'No, it's not even your behavior.'
And so, they came and went, the first period, second period, third period. Still no desks in the classroom.

By early afternoon television news crews had started gathering in Ms.Cothren's classroom to report about this crazy teacher who had taken all the desks out of her room.

The final period of the day came and as the puzzled students found seats on the floor of the deskless classroom, Martha Cothren said, 'Throughout the day no one has been able to tell me just what he/she has done to earn the right to sit at the desks that are ordinarily found in this classroom. Now I am going to tell you.'

At this point, Martha Cothren went over to the door of her classroom and opened it. Twenty-seven (27) U.S. Veterans, all in uniforms, walked into that classroom, each one carrying a school desk.

The Vets began placing the school desks in rows, and then they would walk over and stand alongside the wall. By the time the last soldier had set the final desk in place those kids started to understand, perhaps for the first time in their lives, just how the right to sit at those desks had been earned.

Martha said, 'You didn't earn the right to sit at these desks. These heroes did it for you. They placed the desks here for you. Now, it's up to you to sit in them. It is your responsibility to learn, to be good students, to be good citizens. They paid the price so that you could have the freedom to get an education. Don't ever forget it.'

By the way, this is a true story.

Please consider passing this along so others won't forget that the freedoms we have in this great country were earned by U. S. Veterans

Warriors, the Film

War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things; the decayed and degraded state of moral
and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. A man who has
nothing for which he is willing to fight; nothing he cares about more than his own personal
safety; is a miserable creature who has no chance of being free, unless made and kept so by
the exertions of better men than himself.

With this documentary, photo exhibit and book our aim is to raise funding for and awareness
of the men and women warriors that have given so much to protect our freedoms. Freedom
is not free.

I wasn't sure if I was going to be able to post a race day comment to all of my
friends or not....but I managed. I have also got friends who have been missing my
Maxine posts too! So, I decided to combine the two this week..lol. I hope your
drivers do well this Sunday at Talladega and avoid the "big one"!! And, of course,
Matt too!! Enjoy the race.....I'm not through...scroll on down.......

I am once again asking all of my friends to send me a picture of your fall decor
(one picture per household) so that I can display it on my site!! I did this last year
and everyone seemed to enjoy it. I think it gives us a chance to see that creative
side of you too. Thanks in advance for participating. Hugs.

I received an email today from two of my friends and I know a lot of you know them too....it's Txracefan88 (Sue) and her husband, Texas3fan (Richard). They left on vacation to New York a couple of days ago and just wanted me to say they said hi and they hope all of the drivers have a safe race on Sunday. I wish them a safe and fun trip.

I started reading about Cold-Brewed Coffee several months ago and found it to
taste quite good. Apparently, the acid and bitter taste often found in coffee is eliminated
by cold brewing. Although you can buy equipment designed to brew the coffee,
you can get by with what you may already have in your home.

Cold-Brewed Ice Coffee

Yield: Two drinks

Ingredients:
1/3 cup ground coffee (medium-coarse grind is best)
Milk (optional)

Directions:
1. In a jar, stir together coffee and 1 1/2 cups water. Cover and let rest at room
temperature overnight or 12 hours.
2. Strain twice through a coffee filter, a fine-mesh sieve or a sieve lined with cheesecloth.
In a tall glass filled with ice, mix equal parts coffee concentrate and water, or to taste.
If desired, add milk. This was found in The New York Times 6/27/07
