NEWMAN RUMORS

Jayski.com 8/19/2008
#39 for Newman, not #4: it was announced on Monday's Tony Stewart Sirius Satellite Radio show that Ryan Newman would run the #39 in 2009 and NOT the #4.

Jayski.com 8/15/2008
Stewart-Haas Racing has signed Ryan Newman to a multi-year contract to drive the team's #4 Chevrolet beginning with the 2009 Sprint Cup Series season. Newman, winner of 13 Sprint Cup races, including this year's Daytona 500, will be a teammate to Tony Stewart, the two-time Sprint Cup champion who will drive the #14 Office Depot/Old Spice Chevrolet in 2009. The announcement pairs two Indiana natives and two former United States Auto Club (USAC) champions under one roof. "We're obviously very excited to have Ryan join our team," said Stewart, who will serve as both driver and owner of Stewart-Haas Racing, with Stewart owning Newman's #4 entry. "Long before Ryan came to NASCAR, I knew he was talented. His success in USAC has continued in stock cars, and to have someone of his caliber as my teammate makes both the driver part of me and the owner part of me very happy."
"All I want to do is win, and Tony is a proven winner as both a driver and a team owner," Newman said. "Tony is a racer who has seen all sides of this sport. He knows what it takes to win, and I know that he's going to give me everything I need to be successful. We share the same goals, the same background and the same mindset. There's a comfort level at Stewart-Haas Racing that's very unique, and it's why I've made it my new home." Newman, who enjoys fishing and restoring vintage cars, resides in Statesville, N.C., with his wife, Krissie.

Newman's search narrowed down: #12-Ryan Newman said Friday at Indy that he has his search for a new ride narrowed down (to one), just doesn't have everything finalized, it is more a matter of paperwork and finalizing everything before he can announced something. Not a Rumor: Newman to leave Penske at end of 2008 season
nascar.com By Team Release July 14, 2008 02:09 PM EDT
MOORESVILLE, N.C. -- Penske Racing and Ryan Newman have mutually agreed to move in new directions at the conclusion of the 2008 season.
"We want to thank Ryan for his hard work and contributions to Penske Racing over the past nine years," team owner Roger Penske said. "We wish Ryan all the best for the future and we'll continue to focus our efforts on making the Chase with Ryan and the Alltel Dodge team this season."
Newman, driver of the No. 12 Dodge, is currently in his ninth season competing for Penske Racing. He is ranked 16th in the Cup Series standings through 19 races.
Newman has 13 wins in 243 starts with 63 top-five finishes and 105 top-10s. Since his debut on Nov. 5, 2000, at Phoenix he also has 43 poles -- tops in the Cup Series -- despite not running his first full season until 2002.
"I appreciate Penske Racing and all they have done for me, but more importantly, I appreciate their friendship and what they have done for my career," Newman said. "I would also like to thank all of the sponsors, especially Alltel, who have supported me."
Newman finished in the top 10 in points from 2002-05, but has finished 18th and 13th the past two seasons.
The driver of the Penske Racing No. 12 car for the 2009 season will be announced in the near future.
"From the early days in the ARCA series to our team celebration in Victory Lane at this year's Daytona 500, Alltel Wireless has enjoyed a memorable, eight-year relationship with Ryan Newman," said Jeff Fox, chief operating officer, Alltel Wireless.
"Ryan has been an outstanding representative on and off the track, and we're very proud of the results the partnership has delivered to our brand. We remain committed to our sponsorship of the No. 12 Alltel Dodge and look forward to having Ryan behind the wheel for the rest of the 2008 season. We wish him all the best in his next endeavor."
That endeavor may be as a teammate of fellow Indiana native Tony Stewart, who official announced last week that he is leaving Joe Gibbs Racing at season's end to drive for Stewart-Haas Racing in 2009. It has been widely speculated that Newman also would drive for SHR next year.

Hello, Newman: Back to Daytona
By Ryan Newman, Yahoo! Sports
August 20, 10:00 am EDT

I’m happy with the announcement that I’m joining Stewart/Haas Racing. I’m going to be driving the No. 39 car, which is special to me.
The Silver Crown car I drove in 1996, in which I won rookie of the year, was No. 39. My first USAC midget race, which was at Indianapolis Raceway Park the night before the Indianapolis 500, was in No. 39. And in the 2005 Busch Series, when I won six out of nine races to finish the year, I was also in the No. 39. So the number has a lot of significance to me.
Originally I was supposed to be in the No. 4 car, but it was a situation that NASCAR had told Stewart/Haas that the number was available, but they didn’t clarify that with the Larry McClure bunch, and we didn’t want to upset him. Thirty-nine was available, so we went with it.
It took time and effort on my part, my wife’s part and some close friends to get it done. I did spend some time looking around to see what was available.
Tony Stewart originally approached me. At the same time, I was looking around at other options, even though I hadn’t announced that I was leaving Penske Racing. I was taking care of my homework before I made a decision regarding my future at Penske.
Why did I choose Stewart/Haas?
Here’s how I’ll explain it: It’s kind of like baking cookies from scratch. We’re in a situation where we can assemble the right people from the get go. Not that there aren’t already the right people there, but more of them. We can build what we feel is the right batter, the right mix, and be able to then take those people and obviously the Hendrick Motorsports equipment and make it successful.
A big reason why I made the decision I did was Tony and the people around him. Obviously the support that Stewart/Haas has from Hendrick played a part in my decision, too. The Chevrolet involvement is a good thing. And I’d say the opportunity to not necessarily start all over again, but to create a new start or a new beginning. I didn’t want to go to a place and try to fill somebody’s shoes.
Our expectations for next year are to get both cars in the Chase and have a shot at the championship. I don’t see any reason why we can’t do that in our first go around.
Obviously I’ve missed the Chase the last three years and that’s beat on me quite a bit.
I’m definitely relieved that it’s over. Now I just have to stay focused, do my job here and move on and do my job there.
That’s it for this week. Got to unload some mattresses.
10-4.

Hello, I hope you are having a great day. It's about time Newman left Penske after several days of exploring his other options. I really would love to see Newman drive as Tony's partner next year. Still I hope Newman gets another win with Penske. Have a great day!
