ABOUT ME
Introduction What's up all you Infield Parking nuts? So you want to know more about me eh? If you just dropped by looking for the free beer, we just ran out and you can stop reading now! If you are still reading, I've been a NASCAR fan almost since birth, way before it was drawing the huge crowds it draws today. I can remember watching races on Sunday as a little kid with my dad. My "favorite" driver has always been Dale Sr. and I also like Jr., Tony Stewart, Elliott Sadler, Mark Martin, Dale Jarrett and Denny Hamlin a lot (them and any another driver who at the time happens to be banging the snot out of Jeff Gordon's rear bumper to move him out of the groove). Most of the NASCAR guys seem pretty down to earth, so it's really hard not to like one of them (though Kurt Busch, Jeff Gordon and Jimmie Johnson aren't on my Christmas card list!). My greatest racing memory is watching Dale Sr. win the Daytona 500 after so many tries and everyone on pit road coming out to congratulate him.
I'm happily married with a son and a new baby girl. I'm a CPA by profession (no, we don't sit around and count beans all day). I'm not the quiet introverted, "look at their shoes while they're talking to you" stereotypical accountant once you get to know me LOL (you probably never will, so take my word on that one).
I wanted to do something a little more creative, so I'm also an aspiring aviation (mainly warbirds) photographer and started my own company called Warpaint, LLC Vintage Aviation Gear and Photography (www.warbirdcollectibles.com). Check it out and let me know how much further I need to go before I can remove the word "aspiring" from that description.
One of my biggest thrills is to watch a race with my 4 year old son who knows almost every driver's car. He's a huge Tony Stewart fan, so hopefully someday he actually gets to meet Smoke.
One of the coolest things I've ever done NASCAR related is to drive (solo) a Cup car at MIS at about 145 mph on the track. For those of you that don't think NASCAR is a true "sport", put on your Nomex, racing suit, gloves and helmut and climb into a Cup car on a hot summer day. It's amazing how fast you close on things running that fast. You blink and you've moved a hundred or so feet. Now throw 42 other cars onto the track (thankfully there were only four or five out there with me at the same time). This is something I will always remember and hope to get to do again someday.
Recent Updates:
3/6/08 - Tax season trudges on. Thank God racing is back. At least I get to have a little fun one day a week before April 15th!
My hobbies Spending time with my family is #1, then NASCAR (obviously), aviation photography and old airplanes, hiking, boating, knee boarding, sim racing (I'm currently a driver in HPRL and FFRL and car owner in ASCORS and ESCORS), writing, sports, trying to learn to play the guitar (very poorly I might add) and having a beer now and then with friends. I also like to travel when I can, but my career keeps me pretty busy. The best place I've been to is Europe (France, Germany, Austria and Switzerland) on my honeymoon, which was very cool.
