ABOUT ME
Introduction I'm a race junkie...gear-head chick...My birth mother's family (Paine) has been in Detroit, MI since 1899 either building or designing cars...until
last summer when things went POP. (Most of them were able to retire) On the other hand, I've been raised in Texas since 1970 and was bounced around more than I should have been...we've had a
family meeting and have healed up as much as we can and are now in the process of putting things back to rights. I want my kids to have the life I should have had...and that's saying something
even as good as I've had it. My adopted family started one of the top 100 pest control companies in the nation...and eventhough my Dad sold over to his business partner when he started getting
sick...I still get a warm fuzzy when I see the trucks driving down the road. My adopted dad was eventually diagnosed with MS in his mid-50's which the doctors say is because of the termite rig
that he carried attached to his truck. As a teenager I started watching Dale Sr. when ESPN was a new channel on cable and my adopted mother would wring her hands and say that she'd put me into
all the right schools and introduced me to all the right people..."Where did--she-- go wrong?" (I have to giggle in hindsight) She'd been trying to teach me how to drink champagne...(which is
only useful in the Winner's Circle!) and eat Buluga caviar and eat smoked salmon...and how to do that derned debutante bow? She had to be kidding! Ok, the smoked meats could stay...I did the bow
for her in private and told her to save her money...and even when I didn't know who I was myself...I was still ME...and through these past 30 years my friends will tell you that you could know me
for 2 years and just be getting to the good stuff. They've seen me stand back and look for a need, and then put it right in front of the person who needs it, and leave without a word.
NEWS...NEWS: The quickest way to get the notes out is this...I've not been on IP for health reasons, there was a complication to the surgery on June 24th. It wasn't totally unexpected, so the
good news is that it's taken care of and is OVER. I'm looking forward to taking the boys to Rockport for a few days before school starts on the last Tuesday of the month...we're carpooling with
another group of friends to save gas $$ and hopefully I will be able to give the spray on tan stuff a break for awhile? I've still got to download the photos I took starting at the Charlotte
Memorial Day races...I want to learn how to make a photo album which I will label, "A WEEK in the life of the Luvbugs..." It was crazy but it was fun making all the memories with the various
bkids...as I sit back and look...I was always with at least ONE of my kids...that's just AWESOME! I have always said that the oldest and the baby are clones, but when they both complained about
my Tetris game addiction, I just had to laugh... I wanted to leave a note here as well, that I had posted a forum discussion to IP last March. Does anyone remember that? I had written a letter to
NasCar and I almost fell OVER when I got a response back from Mr. Mike Helton himself! (HOW AWESOME IS THAT?!) It seems that he agreed with most of my assessments of the situation in
Atlanta...and judging from the things that happened in Indy, he's paying attention too. I wish I could figure out how to scan both the letters into the photos, but that will take some time til I
get my stuff at home up to where it should be for the 21st Century. FYI for anyone who wants to mess with my eldest kid... Mike's joined IP as Battlecry101 so visit him and let him know how proud
ya'll are that he's joined the National Guard? He's due to Boot on October 10th...Junior's Birthday! (Mine is the 19th so as hard as I cried last year when Junior hit the wall at Phoenix during
the 50th lap/315...I will be crying more this year. It was the 20th Anniversary of Wes' death, as well as my official 40th birthday party so I had to get out of town!) I was asked by the C.O. at
TMS so I will let ya'll know, it's not so much that I haven't had more than half of the men in my family in the military, but that I was widowed in that marriage and Mike is the sole heir. The
Paine family and the Gerlach family have fought in EVERY war except WWI when the Gerlach's refused to fight against the Germans, they went to Canada until the war was over. The Gerlach family was
a set of 8 cousins who came over on the boat together in 1906, all having letters of employment signed by Mr. H. Ford going to Detroit? (Wonder who that was?) The first Gerlach in my branch of
the family tree was Charles who died in 1915...but when I was told to turn around in a circle at the graveyard, wondering what I was looking at or for, I looked to my Great-Aunt Mae who then told
me that every grave I'd just seen was a relative! My family was very upset when they learned that I'd been adopted out of the family...I've grown up (and raised the older kids) thinking I didn't
have one.
My hobbies Besides Nascar? Hmmm...I volunteer with several different organizations...Mobile Loaves and Fishes (now becoming a National mission to feed and clothe the homeless population); which networks with Miracle Network and I've got a few friends working in orphanages in various places. (They call me for "advice" on problem solving...) I also like to paint, hang wallpaper and lay flooring with Habitat for Humanity...and this is when I am not playing soccer/football or ATA mom to the younger 2 of my 5 "lovebugs" total. Don't choke...the eldest and youngest are mine by birth and I took in a niece and nephew in the middle. I sure do wish my (4) boys and (1) girl would go get trained to work in Nascar Pits...and Jack Roush has said he'll hire them if they'd just call him! He's after a Cat-in-the-Hat keychain that I had when we met...so pay attention if you see a red/blonde Molly Ringwald-look alike with a Cat-in-the-Hat keychain...it's probably me! My need for speed and noise is ever-increasing as I'm getting more freedom from the kids and now that my EX is finally helping with the kids...WAHOO! Mama's gonna get her groove back on!
