Racing is my life. It’s all I’ve ever wanted to do, and I’m one of the few lucky ones to be able to make a living doing it. When I’m at home, I race online. When I’m hanging with my buddies, we like to race karts. Sure we do other things – like play on the computer, ride four-wheelers, and listen to music – but for the most part, my life centers around racing.
I live in Mooresville, N.C. I have a pretty cool place to live. On the property is a par-3 golf course, a late model shop, three karting tracks, a campground, lots of trails, and of course, my western town, Whiskey River. It’s a cool place to just chill out.
Right now I’m in my 10th year of Sprint Cup competition and my second year with Hendrick Motorsports driving the No. 88 AMP Energy/National Guard Chevrolet. I enjoy driving for Rick Hendrick. He’s a great owner but an even better friend. I also wear the shoes of an owner, as I started JR Motorsports a few years ago just so we could compete in a local street-stock division, but now we’re a full-fledged operation with four teams in two different series. In the NASCAR Nationwide Series we race the No. 88 and the No. 5. The 88 team finished third in the championship in 2008, and the 5 car won a couple races as well. We also have two late model cars in our stable at JRM. Late model racing is special to me because it’s how I got my start. I enjoy having late model teams under the JRM banner, because it makes me feel I’m doing my part in keeping grass-roots racing alive, and that’s important to me.
I also have a few other businesses that I run. Hammerhead Entertainment is a production company that I started in 2006. We’ve produced everything from television commercials to nationally broadcast programming. We also recently opened Whiskey River, a bar and nightclub in uptown Charlotte. It’s the hot spot in the Charlotte area, and my buddies and I enjoy hanging out there quite a bit.
