Christian, Husband, Father, Airman, Bomb Technician, Fire Fighter, Golfer, and not your typical NASCAR Fan. That's in order, and that's what you need to know about....
NOTHING BUT NASCAR HERE! My first NASCAR Cup experience was the Richmond fall race in 1999. I've been a NASCAR and Tony Stewart fan since. Here's a look at him and NASCAR through a different set
of eyes.
I'm an Air Force Bomb Disposal Technician (EOD) right down the street from the Monster Mile (Dover AFB). I've been in serving for 18 years, and have enjoyed every minute. I've been to two races
in Richmond (including Tony's first win!), and every Dover race since 2001.
A fellow blogger (4ever3) had a contest where I was to describe why I liked my favorite driver.
This was my entry: I like Tony Stewart because:
He's a driver.
Seems like a terrible thing to say about a guy that drives for a living. What I mean is he'll race anything that's put in front of him that has an accelerator and a steering wheel, even
remote control. Anything that will give him a chance to beat you (covered below).
He's got raw talent.
Just strap him in and let him go. If it will go fast, he'll make it go fast. He has a championship (or two) in every organization of racing he's ever competed in.
He wants to beat you.
Again, not the nicest thing to say, but it's true. Passion makes everything better, but it makes racing great. He not only wants to race, but he wants to win, and win every time. His goal for
any race is to pass the car in front of him until there isn't one, and then drive until there's no more laps to turn. The trophies are nice and fence climbing is fun, but winning is what
makes him tic.
He has opted out of the corporate NASCAR lifestyle.
Buying his old home and moving back to Indiana has brought this boy back to his roots. Hanging out and fishing with old friends is something most NASCAR drivers just don't take the time to do
anymore. A constant corporate schedule of store openings and autograph signings seems to have strangled most of the popular drivers. As a champion, there is a huge demand on his time, but
he's gotten his priorities in line.
He's giving back to the sport.
As a dirt track owner (and part owner of another), he's promoting the sport from a level that will make a difference. You will hear stories one day of great drivers who got their start at a
track Tony Stewart owned.
He's very charitable.
His organization has given millions to charity, including a one million dollar check to the Victory Junction Gang.
You don't have to like him, but you will respect him.
NASCAR as an organization needs more drivers they can't just turn up the heat on and make them dance. Not that he doesn't dance every once in awhile; The banquet comes to mind, but not as
much as others.
...and he's made not shaving cool.
Here's a pic from Victory Lane at Dover. I'm the one on the left.
My hobbies are NASCAR, golf (I'm the only one you know who watches NASCAR and golf, picture-in-picture.) and my blog.
.....and of course this Infield Parking page.
In case you're wondering how to get pics on your page (and I've been asked a few times), here's how I did it:
1. Click here:
2. Create an account. It's free!
3. Upload pictures to your album from your computer.
....a. Click the "browse" button, then select the pic on your computer you want to upload.
....b. Click the "upload" button. In a few seconds your picture should appear in the space below the upload section.
4. Click on the link beside "IMG Code" that's below the picture you'd like to place on IP. (it copies it automatically)
5. Open your IP space page, and make sure you're logged in.
6. Click on "My Account" at the top of the page.
7. Click on "Edit my Infield Parking Space" on the right side towards the top.
8. Paste the code the fields "ABOUT ME" or "MY HOBBIES". A pic will not appear when you paste the code. It will be a long line of code starting with [URL].*
9. Click on "SAVE" at the bottom of the page. Give it a few seconds to confirm your changes have been saved.
10. Click on "View my Infield Parking Space" at the top right.
*You can also paste that code in your comments to others.
I wasn't sure if I was going to be able to post a race day comment to all of my friends or not....but I managed. I have also got friends who have been missing my Maxine posts too! So, I decided to combine the two this week..lol. I hope your drivers do well this Sunday at Talladega and avoid the "big one"!! And, of course, Matt too!! Enjoy the race.....I'm not through...scroll on down.......
I am once again asking all of my friends to send me a picture of your fall decor (one picture per household) so that I can display it on my site!! I did this last year and everyone seemed to enjoy it. I think it gives us a chance to see that creative side of you too. Thanks in advance for participating. Hugs.
I received an email today from two of my friends and I know a lot of you know them too....it's Txracefan88 (Sue) and her husband, Texas3fan (Richard). They left on vacation to New York a couple of days ago and just wanted me to say they said hi and they hope all of the drivers have a safe race on Sunday. I wish them a safe and fun trip.
Hello my friend the Talladega Track has to be one of my favorite,Bristol being another one. Talladega Superspeedway is located in Talladega, Alabama, United States. It was constructed in the 1960s in place of abandoned airport runways by International Speedway Corporation, a business controlled by NASCAR's founding France family along with Daytona International Speedway and several other racetracks. At 2.66 miles long, Talladega is the largest oval track in the Sprint Cup Series and has seating provisions for over 175,000 patrons. In the 2000 season, Earnhardt had a resurgence,He scored what many considered the 2 most exciting wins of the year - winning by .006 seconds over Bobby Labonte at Atlanta, then gaining seventeen positions in the final four laps to win at Talladega, claiming his only No Bull million dollar bonus. The Craftsman Truck Series race is 250 miles (94 laps) and the ARCA race, was shortened to 300 miles in 1998, and to 250 miles in 2006 when it was moved to Friday. Have a great weekend eddie
