I just saw and heard this on the new's! So glad to hear that he's ok! Man, isn't this his 2nd plane crash? So
thankful it wasn't worse than it was and he is alright! - S -
This is the last update I've seen: “There are injuries. Possible surgery,” Roush Fenway Racing
president Geoff Smith said in a text message to The Associated Press. “But he walked out of the plane.”
For real! They kept repeating that he was ok and that's all they said, I mean, they kept going to it cuz it was
Breaking New's, but they said he was ok! You're right Mick, he must have 9 live's! I do remember the other
crash as being worse. Well, thanks for the update and if and when you hear more, I know you'll post it...you
my man are on top of thing's! Actually, as soon as it came on the new's, I was going to see if I could beat you to
post it, but I was waitin on something to load...lol, but I knew that you would be right on it! You do an
awesome job on keepin us all up to what all is happenin and I thank you! - S -
I haven't seen any pics., where did u c them? I can't believe they kept saying he was ok, but, that was right
when it happened. I guess he was worse than reported after checking him out. This is awful! Thanx to you
Angie for the update's!
Yep, this is his second airplane crash...first one, was in a lake in Alabama heading to Talladega. By luck,
there was a former Navy SEAL which saw the whole thing and pulled him from the plane and was in serious
condition then too...info from: "Growing up NASCAR" by Humpy Wheeler, pg 273
CNN HLN is
showing updates this morning, but not going into too much detail
This is the week for the Experimental Aircraft Association's (EAA) Air Show in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. This
accident took place there, and there was plenty of emergency support to quickly react to the situation.
Good chance that Jack most likely had some of his warbirds present at the event.
Saw the cut
and the blood, which is typical from such a head injury. Pretty sure the "Serious" condition is stated due
to whatever other head trauma he could have incurred...such as whip-lash or concussion
As
my daddy would say (he was a pilot/instructor) any landing you can walk away from is a good landing....
From(CNN) -- The morning after his private jet crashed at an airport in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, NASCAR team
owner Jack Roush remained in serious, but stable, condition at Theda Clark Medical Center in nearby
Neenah, Wisconsin, hospital spokeswoman Megan Wilcox said Wednesday.
She said Roush had
been brought to Theda Clark, the area's trauma center, and it was "too early" to say how long Roush would
remain in the hospital. The hospital was keeping details about Roush's injuries private "at the request
of his family and racing team," Wilcox said.
Roush's racing team released a statement saying,
"Dr. Kevin Wasco, the attending physician, says that Roush is in serious, but stable, condition. His
injuries are not life threatening."
Roush and another passenger, identified as Brenda
Strickland of Plymouth, Michigan, were injured Tuesday evening when a Beechcraft Premier jet,
registered to Roush Fenway Racing LLC, was landing, according to organizers of an air show that had just
ended for the day at Wittman Regional Airport in Oshkosh.
The National Transportation Safety
Board and the Winnebago County Sheriff's Department confirmed the identities, the Experimental
Aircraft Association said in a statement Tuesday night.
Strickland was brought to Oshkosh's
Mercy Medical Center, where she remained in good condition, Mercy spokeswoman Maria Heim said
Wednesday.
Video showed Roush and Strickland walking away from the crash, which occurred at
6:15 p.m.
The accident shut down the airport until its regular 8 p.m. closing time, but the
airport re-opened Wednesday morning, Experimental Aircraft Association spokesman Dick Knapinski
said.
The Experimental Aircraft Association, is sponsoring its popular annual air show,
AirVenture 2010, at the airport. Knapinski said Roush comes every year and "does presentations as an
airplane enthusiast."
Knapinski said Roush owns one of "probably fewer than 200 airworthy"
World War II-era P-51 Mustang fighter planes and Roush had been scheduled to give a presentation about his
vintage prop plane Tuesday. Roush had also been slated to appear at the air show Wednesday, signing
autographs and talking to NASCAR fans at the Ford tent.
"Roush Fenway Racing is NASCAR's
largest team operating eight motorsports teams. Four in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series with drivers Matt
Kenseth, Greg Biffle, Carl Edwards and David Ragan; and four in the Nationwide Series with Edwards, Ricky
Stenhouse Jr., Colin Braun, Brian Ickler, and Paul Menard," said the statement from Roush's racing
team.
The NTSB is leading the investigation into the accident.
Statement by NASCAR Chairman & CEO Brian France on Jack Roush
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (July 28,
2010) – “On behalf of the NASCAR industry our hearts and prayers go out to Jack Roush, the Roush family and
Roush Fenway Racing. All of us are looking forward to a full and speedy recovery.”
Okay, after having looked at the film and pics....I'm speculating that one of two things occurred in this
accident:
1. Landing gear failure - means it deployed, but didn't lock properly and
collapsed once the aircraft made contact with the runway
2. Pilot error - meaning the pilot
failed to deploy the landing gear prior to landing...you can laugh, but it happens more than most would
like to admit
If you looked at the films and pics you'll quickly see there aren't any wheels
down or torn off....they could easily be seen if either should have occurred. If torn off after impact,
there would be damage along the mid-wing (near belly of aircraft) to the trailing edge of the wing. I'm not
seeing any indication that this happened, so collapse or non-deployed landing gear seems most logical in
this situation.
No matter, its good to see Jack and passenger survived the incident and
CNN/NASCAR are reporting that Jack is staying in the hospital in Wisconsin another night.
New information on what might possibly have happened from a witness (pilot) who was interviewed by a local
news station at Oshkosh....
BLUF: this pilot believes the plane was going to slow and
stalled on approach...he also states he saw 3 people leave the wreckage...so might want to take this
eyewitness account with some skepticism

Roush transferred to Mayo Clinic in Minn. Owner
remains in serious but stable condition after plane crash By NASCAR.COM July 29, 2010 12:28 PM EDT
Jack Roush was transferred to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., Wednesday
evening according to a statement released Thursday by Roush Fenway Racing.
"Following
surgery Tuesday night related to the facial damage sustained in the accident, he remains in serious, but
stable condition," the statement said.
Regarding Jack's facial injuries, which were no doubt caused by impacting the plane's yoke, or steering
wheel if you will, here's something that's always bugged me.
In you're in a passenger car
going say 55-70 mph on the ground you are required by most states to wear your seat belts ... plural. Meaning
a lap belt and shoulder harness.
In an aircraft landing at 100-150 mph from an altitude a lap
belt is all you have, and even at that in a private aircraft like Jack was flying who's to say that was even
on?
I would like to think that Mr. Roush, knowing racing as he does, would have had the belt on,
but I have to wonder if a shoulder harness might have saved him from smashing his mush into whatever it was
that it impacted.
I attempted to go to the Beechcraft Premier Jet site, but there
aren't any pictures of the cockpit interior which demonstrate seats and harness restraints.
I've known that some such aircraft to have harness restraint belts, but I'm able to confirm this
concerning this aircraft
Oh, and it might be time for Smilin' Jack to hire a pilot, he's not real good at flying.
Sorry,
he IS good at flying, it's those pesky landings he has a problem with. Both accidents occurred on
approach.
"There is an art, or rather a knack to flying. The knack lies in learning how to
throw yourself at the ground and miss." ~ Douglas Adams, Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy
Hi guys! Sorry I missed out on this banter. All of the pilots I know say "flying is easy, it's landing that's
hard". Usually, after a pilot has an accident, the FAA requires them to have a check ride with a CFI. Maybe
that would be a good thing...

Well, there are conflicting reports.
Some say he is okay, others that he is in serious, but stable condition.
Either way he dodged another bullet.
He truly IS a 'cat' ... nine lives and all.
Yes, this is his second plane crash although the first was quite a bit worse than this one.
Thank God all survived and there was no fire.
